“Always give thanks, no matter what happens. This is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Hey there, Future Oak Tree! Does your attitude light up your day, or does it make everything feel dark and grumpy?
The Bible says your eye is like a lamp for your whole body. If you look for good things (a good perspective), you fill up with light! If you look for bad things (a grumpy perspective), everything feels dark!
God tells us to always give thanks, no matter what happens. This means giving thanks is a matter of perspective, not circumstances.
The Marbles Lesson
I once went on a mission trip to a place called Honduras. I talked to a friend named Charlie Winner about the kids there who didn’t have a lot of new toys or computers. I felt worried about them.
But then, I saw the kids playing! They were laughing, smiling, and having fierce battles with simple marbles! They didn’t have big gaming systems, but they were pleased and seemed super happy.
I realized the kids in Honduras had a good perspective! They understood that having fun with a marble game and being with friends was just as good—maybe even better!—than any video game.
The Faith Power-Up
When you choose to say “Thank You, God!” even when things are hard, you are showing faith. You are believing that God is working things out for good, just like He did for Joseph.
Thanksgiving gives you a special peace power-up that stops the worries. Don’t let the Comparison Trap get you!. Don’t worry about what you don’t have; appreciate what you do have (like food and clothing!).
You get to choose your perspective. Choose to look for God’s blessings!
🙏 Simple Prayer: The Grateful Eye
Dear God,
Thank you for everything You give me. I choose to have a good perspective today. Help me be like the kids in Honduras who found joy in the simple things. Give me eyes that see Your blessings, not my shortcomings. I give thanks in all circumstances!
Amen.
